I had a fascinating discussion with Dr. Robert Greenberg, Executive Chairman of the Alfred Mann Foundation, an organization committed to addressing challenging unmet clinical needs based on substantial work of the late Alfred E. Mann. Alfred is known as a medical device icon- founding 17 companies including Pacesetter, which became the Cardiac Rhythm Management division of St. Jude Medical.
Bob chose to leave practicing medicine and a strong career with the FDA to move cross country under Alfred Mann's leadership. One of the many reasons he shared was Al's dedication to solving hard problems. If there is a remote possibility, go back to first principles and work at it again.
